Project Description
Frechtel Residence
Major Kitchen Remodel
1981 | (Del Cerro) San Diego, CA
Major Structural Alterations
- Removed Two major bearing walls hiding support beams in ceiling to keep flat ceiling which makes new room look like an original part of home
- Alterations created a huge and bright room open to the back yard with pool and view
- Alterations also created design challenges due to the lack of walls to place common elements like desks.
- The solution was to use multiple islands for specific functions
- One small island was sued for multifunction housing a desk, wine rack, and storage for formal dishes on the dining room side. This island is also used for buffet serving
- The large main island houses the cook top with down vent and an eating bar on the back side
