2015 – After Initial Consultation

I don’t know if you remember me. My name is Charlie Weiss and I live at [redacted]. You came and talked to me about a remodel of my kitchen, dining and living room area a couple of months ago. Your recommendation to me was that my wife and I look for another house rather than go through an extensive remodel.

We have been looking for a house since that time, and have been unable to find anything that we would like that is within our budget. We are at a point where we are again considering remodeling, and also looking at less extensive remodel options.

No matter what we decide I wanted to write you and thank you for your time, and your candor. Everyone else we have spoken to has tried to sell us something, or talk us into something without regard for what is best for us. They have either been salesmen with limited nuts and bolts construction knowledge, or construction people with little design experience who want us to talk to an architect. Your knowledge of the process from start to finish was very welcome.

Hopefully we will be able to do business in the future, but even if we don’t I wanted to send you a big thank you.

Regards,

Charles Weiss

Description Of Work:
This was a complete kitchen demolition and remodel. The services performed include preliminary meetings, design review meetings, kitchen demolition, new electrical and plumbing, bringing a gas line into the kitchen, dry wall, painting, construction and installation of cabinets, ceramic tile work for the counters and walls, painting, installation of all new appliances.

Comments:
This job went better than I could ever have imagined was possible. Dan Nesovic is the perfect contractor: he has been in the business for 30+ years, he really knows what he is doing so his pricing and time-line are completely reliable, he has established long-term relationships with craftsmen and suppliers of the highest caliber, he has his customer’s needs at heart and does not lead them to do any unnecessary work or engage in unnecessary expenditures.

He is very calm, very professional, very knowledgeable, punctual, and holds himself and everyone who works for him to a high standard.

Once I met Dan, I didn’t bother to interview other kitchen remodel contractors. His approach was perfect. He is a good listener and has remodeled so many kitchens that he can visualize whatever it is that you want. He is willing to answer questions and find answers as needed.

Everything he told me about the design and the costs was accurate. He has a carpenter/remodeler who works for him and then he brings in specialists for many of the parts of the job.

Every specialist he brought in was someone I would have hired myself. Each of them was professional and did outstanding work. Every single person who worked on the remodel cleaned up at the end of the day. They were all very careful about this, which I appreciated it. Every single one of them communicated clearly about the time line for their work. And when they had to overlap at my house, they worked well together. Dan himself came by every day to check on the work.

I am extremely happy with the new kitchen. Indeed, having found Dan, I want to seize the opportunity to also remodel my bathrooms. I am meeting with him next week to begin discussions for the bathroom remodels.

I recommend Dan unconditionally. He is first-rate, top-notch. Honest, straightforward, very experienced. Trust him, he knows that he is doing.

Comments:
Through Angie’s List we had Dan provide advice on the remodel of our master and guest bathrooms that had not been updated since the house was built in 1983. During his visit he discussed our needs and ideas of what we needed. He was very helpful in helping us define what we wanted and provided suggestions based on his expertise and experience in this type of work.

He drew up sketches of what we thought we wanted and also his suggestions. His ideas were far better than ours. We exchanged several emails and phone calls to further define the plans. We asked for an estimate of the work. Dan reviewed each item with us and carefully answered our questions. Eventually we added the remodel of the third bathroom, upgrading three storage cabinets and some carpentry work.

All of the workers Dan brought in were very professional and efficient. We particularly appreciated that they cleaned up the job site each day. Dan came to our house each day to check on the work and provide direction.

We were very involved in selecting the fixtures and accessories for the baths. Dan suggested several supply stores, granite suppliers and tile stores to visit and select the items we wanted. He has worked with many of the suppliers and was able to give us guidance as to the value and quality of the items we wanted.

We are very pleased with the bathrooms and storage cabinets. They are modern, functional and greatly increased the storage space in our home.
His experience, attention to detail and guidance that he provided to us through this remodel resulted in our home becoming a custom built home.
We liked the painter he used for the bathrooms so much we had him paint the rest of the interior of the house.

Without exception we highly recommend Dan Nesovic. His knowledge and experience in design and construction and his patience in guiding us through this remodel were outstanding.

Project Date: 2012

Type of Service: Dan Nesovic was hired by us as a design consultant on our bedroom addition and whole house remodel.

Description Of Work:
I am working with my son to remodel his home. We are working with an architect, but have run into problems trying to develop a workable plan for laying out the design of the remodel. This remodel also includes an additional bedroom. After going back and forth with the architect over the last eight months, I discovered Dan on Angie’s List. We hired Dan as consultant and it was the best decision that we have made.

Dan normally is a design-build contractor, but he was willing to work with us on our project. Dan is very personable and very knowledgeable about kitchen and bath remodeling (as well as a myriad of other topics). While kitchen and bath remodeling is his specialty, he helped us develop a layout for the entire house, including a great solution for adding the new bedroom.

Comments:
We found that Dan’s knowledge of the remodel process will save us time and money by helping us to avoid potential problems down the road. When we get to the installation phase of the project, we will most certainly use Dan for the kitchen and bath cabinetry.

If you are looking for a design-contractor we could not recommend Dan more highly.

Company Response:
The architect this client worked with first, had some really good ideas. The problem with his design was not a functional or aesthetic issue, but a budgetary issue. His plan required a great deal of remodeling to accomplish which the client knew would do two things. 1. make it very difficult to live in the home while working on it and 2. be out of budget for the client, and the neighborhood, in this market.

All successful projects start with a good plan, that the client has complete confidence in. In my experience, that confidence comes easiest if, in the beginning, time is taken to explore all options, so the client has all the information needed to make an intelligent decision for themselves. This process also reduces the possibility of a condition I call Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda, in which the client second guesses themselves, because they keep wondering if they are doing the right thing. Knowledge is power. I try to give knowledge to my clients to empower them to make good decisions.

Whether this client purchases more services or not in the future, I am content knowing I helped them make good choices. I have found in my 35+ years of business, that kind of good will always comes back to reward me, many times over.

Type of Service: Master Bath Remodel

Description Of Work:
Dan provided an excellent design for a master bath remodel for my home. I was impressed with his design and professionalism and decided to proceed to have Dan do the bath remodel as well.

His design incorporated ideas I had and he added many others from his experience with kitchen and bath design. His contract and scope of work was very clear. It spelled out what services he would provide and what items/services I had to provide and pay for separately. His staff and subcontractors were all very courteous, professional, highly skilled and always arrived to work when they said they would.

The remodel included demolition of the existing bath, all except an existing closet. It also included carpentry, plumbing, painting, tiling (completely new built-up shower pan and walls) and stone work (travertine countertop), custom cherry wood cabinetry, recessed LED lighting and exhaust fan and frameless shower enclosure.  The resulting master bath is even better than I had anticipated. I highly recommend Dan Nesovic and would use his services again.

Comments:
The master bath remodel design was completed in August and I was not ready to proceed immediately. Dan was very good with checking back with me to see when I would want to proceed with the project. In mid-October he contacted me to see if I was ready since he had another client who had to delay the start of their project, and my project could fit well into his schedule. The timing was right for me too and I had to move quickly to choose everything from tiles to toilets to cabinetry, sinks, hardware, etc. so the project could begin the following week.

The whole project was completed before Thanksgiving (November 22nd) except for a couple of special order items that took six weeks to arrive. As soon as those items arrived, their installation was scheduled and completed. The entire project was completed by the 1st of December. The whole remodel process went very well.

We had Dan come to do a kitchen remodel design.  He was amazing. His insights were so clear and obvious after he discussed them with us, but made a huge impact on how we designed our kitchen as no one else had made these comments/had these ideas. I would definitely use him again for any design work. His custom built cabinets would have been even better than what we bought at Lowes, but over our budget.

Comments:
He was great!

Company Response:
At the time of this design work I did for this client, I only had my own custom cabinets available. By listening to the needs of great clients like this, I have since added a manufactured line of cabinets to meet their needs. I can now match any door style, wood species, or color with this line of cabinets while giving my clients, in most cases, a better made cabinet, while matcing or beating the price of Lowe’s and the other large retailers, due to my low overhead.

On a previous recommendation, we had another firm do an overhaul of the two bathrooms in our home, and based upon their performance we were determined not to use them for the kitchen. Their schedules were unpredictable – often they worked only small fractions of a day, and other days didn’t come at all. While they were friendly, they didn’t communicate a credible schedule and stick to it. They began second and third “fronts” on the bathroom jobs before completing the first, so their progress wasn’t step-wise sensible. Even simple things, like suitably preparing walls for painting weren’t done, so that now a nick in the paint will result in large peals – there is no adherence.

They became aware of our desire to do kitchen remodeling, and involved an architect friend to do some design work and permit applications. Within less than a month we’d had enough. We had no decent design, nor had he obtained permits. It was at this point that our landscape architect recommended Dan. With no fuss, Dan disentangled us from the previous designer.

An early priority Dan conveyed was discussion on what we desired as the outcome of our remodel. Certain things were obvious: the many ceiling heights in the different rooms felt dated, as did the faux stone surrounding our fireplace and the lighting in each room. Other things were more subtle: Dan walked us through a discussion of the track between sink, stove, and refrigerator – a circuit we were oblivious to, and one we might have blundered afoul of without his help.

A point of concern for us was that we wanted all our changes to be covered by permits. Dan affirmed us in that area, and told, with examples, of the false economy of avoiding that small fee.

Dan gave us a very detailed schedule and agreed to payments at each milestone. Things we changed our minds about, like the shape and dimensions of the kitchen island he incorporated with no hassle. He helped at every step as we chose appliances and sought suppliers, a search, which ended with him introducing us to the best price source we found, one that beat even the lowest web-based sources.

Dan employs a team of expert craftsmen for each step of the remodel. The demolition team was fast, the roofers were quick and efficient, the electrical, plumbing, and slab-pouring went without a hitch. His flooring guy was exceptional – his tile work shows up flaws in previous work we had done years earlier. His painter was also great, and we used him afterwards to paint the whole house exterior. His cabinet-maker/finish carpenter was exactly what we would have asked for had we the knowledge to be specific. He impressed us even in cleanup, and worked with his son to leave behind a well-done job.

My wife and I have had to re-do a total of one task that Dan undertook, which was to replace a single drawer knob screw which was shorter than the rest.

We are absolutely pleased with Dan, his team, and his suppliers. If we undertake another such task, we will certainly use Dan.

In August of 2010, Dan Nesovic remodeled our 1986 kitchen and guest bath. He provided several plans which broadened our choices. The plans gave us several new looks for our kitchen since we didn’t want to change the original footprint. He listened to our needs and provided novel suggestions. We were pleased that he was able to make changes in the plans to suit our needs. We really appreciated his patience and guidance. Sometimes when making big and expensive choices, we needed extra time before making decisions.

When the kitchen was gutted, Dan saw that previous work to the floor and plumbing were not up to his standards and so he had his workers correct the issues. Dan always explained what was going to happen next and when the workers would be at the house. His contractor,Jeff, was also wonderful to work with. Jeff was a conscientious worker and listened and addressed any concerns we had. Jeff went out of his way to keep things as clean and neat as possible during a remodel. So important when living through a remodel.

The kitchen remodel was completed before the expected date. We were very satisfied with how the layout of the kitchen made using the kitchen so much more efficient. We just love how the kitchen turned out.  It is amazing the difference a new kitchen can make to the whole house. We have enjoyed entertaining in our new kitchen and everyone who has seen it loves it too!

Dan,

Just wanted to let you know how pleased Terry and I are with the recent remodel you did for us.

With this latest remodel and addition, I believe that every room in the house has now been modified by you in the 30 years I’ve lived in this house. Even though the kitchen was redone almost 15 years ago, it looks as good and up to date as if it were just done with the new addition. In fact, people believe it is brand new.

With the 3 remodeling projects that you have now undertaken on my house over the years, I can honestly say that we have become friends, something that is probably rare in the building trade, where problems and disputes often arise between the builder and his client. You have always been fair and honest with your costs and have always delivered the level of quality that you promised and that I expected.

This latest project with the addition of Terry’s art studio and the steps we took to modernize the look of the house have transformed our California ranch house into a home that our guests always compliment and that we feel so comfortable living in. You have a great sense of how to best utilize space and create designs that don’t become stale and cliché, as evidenced by our kitchen. The new entryway, front door, and foyer have totally changed the feel of the house and have added an elegance to the ambiance.

We can’t thank you enough for making our house a home that we love to come home to and in which we love to entertain our friends.

Sincerely,

Type of Service: Completion of a deck that had been started (and botched) by someone else and involved much remedial work so that it would meet County code requirements. Work included working with the structural engineer to replace substandard footings and to install structural modifications. Also, railing had to be installed according to the approved plan.

We needed someone that could finish a huge deck project already in progress – turn key. I didn’t want to have to deal with any more permits, engineers, inspectors, or many contractors.

Dan took this job with a cost estimate up front.  He used a contract involving progress payments and came in under budget. It was apparent he was interested in keeping our costs low while at the same time providing the quality that we hoped to enjoy.

Dan managed all aspects of the job including coordination of the installation of scaffolding, removal and replacement of substandard footings involving concrete and a concrete pump contractor, acquisition of materials, coordination of workers, final inspection by the County folks, and clean up. There were occasions where we needed them to not work on several days and Dan accommodated our needs.

He did what he said he would do and was on time in every instance. Job went off without a hitch. Craftsmanship was outstanding. He and his crew did a really nice job.

It’s been a long time since Dan remodeled our kitchen and bathroom (1985) but we still enjoy and appreciate the design and practicality he gave us. We had some ideas, but Dan suggested many things we would never have thought of ourselves.

We particularly appreciate his idea about having lots of arms length storage in the bathroom and not too much counter space to collect clutter. The two sinks are cantilevered from a narrow counter, creating more floor space. Next to each sink is a tall cabinet where we can stash everything. The cabinets have electrical outlets for the radio, shaver, hair dryer, and even now, the i-phone! Since our master bathroom is also our dinner guests’ bathroom, this ability to keep the clutter hidden at all times has been wonderful. Dan is also an artist with lighting, using techniques that make the space seem larger than it is. Over the years we have made a few changes, updating to LED lights in the kitchen for example, but we operate within the framework Dan gave us.

Apart from the end results, we have to commend Dan for his totally organized approach to the whole remodeling job. He made sure we made our choices of fixtures and colors in plenty of time so that there were no hold ups in the construction. He helped with those choices by recommending brands and referring us to sources of materials, making pleasant what might have been a stressful time. The written contract was formal and clear and every step of the schedule went smoothly and on time.

We recommend Dan highly for his knowledge, skill, experience, and just as importantly for his friendly and helpful demeanor.

Dear Dan,

I want to take this opportunity to personally thank you for the beautiful remodels you have done on my home over the past twenty five years.  You have remodeled my kitchen twice.  You also worked on my family room and master bath.  Each time you began the project with first class design drawings that were easy to read and clearly explained your intentions.  You sat down with my wife and I and explained the drawings and gave an approximate time line for completion of the job.  Your contract and bid was easy to understand.  I feel that your price was well worth the creative ideas and workmanship we received.

Although the work crews were different for each remodel, you found individuals that were talented, polite and always professional.

You were on the job almost every day to oversee the work and solve the many problems that arise during a large remodel.

In the past twenty five years we have called you on several occasions if we had problems.  You solved our problems over the phone, sent someone out, or came out yourself.

Dan, the remodeling you have done to our home is beautiful.  We have thoroughly enjoyed our gorgeous shower, all of our kitchen and bathroom plumbing fixtures, our new kitchen appliances and our granite counter tops in the kitchen and dining room.

In the future, if and when we have more remodeling to do, we would not consider anyone else for the job.

Sincerely,

Type of Service: Dan and his crew performed a complete tear-out and remodel of a kitchen and a bathroom in our 1930 Monterey-style home

We began in Jan. 2005 with 3 consultations. I felt an immediate connection with Dan and felt with my many visual examples of the kitchen and bath I hoped to have, we were on the same page.

A 3D computer image was made of my dream kitchen and bath and I saw my project become real. The last meeting before starting was to clarify payment schedule, hours of work, and target completion date.

We did a down-to-the-bare-bones remodel of our kitchen and bath. We decided to re-do our base and crown molding. We have one wall area that is rounded and the crown molding had to be pieced together. It was a very time consuming job and it is beautifully done, with no seams showing.

The workmanship of the entire remodel is superb as is the work ethic of Dan and his assistants. Everyone was helpful, courteous, respectful and tidy. They were always on time and worked every day until the project was completed very close to the target date in June 2005.

I would have Dan back anytime for another project

Just finished painting the garage and patio cover to match the house so everything is finally as I had envisioned it from beginning of the remodeling. If I could only get rid of the crabgrass in the front junipers, everything would be perfect.

I am writing this letter to express my sincere thanks for a job very well done. Your bid for the job was submitted promptly and in great detail, incorporating all the little goodies I had always wanted.

The work started as scheduled, and was completed very near the estimated time. During construction the workman were here ever day Monday through Saturday except the one day when it poured rain.

While jobs like this one often aggravate the neighbors, mine only had praise for the courteous manner in which they were treated by all the workmen. All of the various tradesmen performed their part more than satisfactorily.

Most importantly, special thanks for keeping the finished product completely within budget. For this reason, and the fact that I love the house the way it is now, I would be more than delighted to recommend your firm to anyone contemplating remodeling. Also, the house will always be open to you to display what you can do. Just give me a call.

Again, thanks for the beautiful job.

Sincerely yours,

Steve Amis, M.D. – La Jolla, CA

Dennis and I would like to thank you for the outstanding job you did on our kitchen. The design is excellent and really utilizes every inch of our limited space. I hope you win the award again for small kitchens – you deserve it.

Type of Service: Kitchen and Entry Remodel

Dear Mr. Nesovic

It is with great pleasure that we can say that our new kitchen and entry remodel is a total success. Everything was completed in good time and the finished product enhances our whole outlook of the house.

After our former experience in remodeling, the relationship with your company was an incredible turn for the better. From the onset of the initial consult with your designer consultant, every detail was thoroughly discussed and reviewed. Questions were handled efficiently and carefully, and we always knew the status of the progress as well as any little variation in our account. Furthermore, there were no surprises for extra costs – a major concern in our former experience – and we felt that we were always dealt with fairly and honestly.

Second only to the quality of the design and construction, we feel that the caliber of your personnel is exceptional. The concern for detail and extra efforts to ensure this were much appreciated, and even after the completion of the job, the response to things that came up subsequently was immediate. We cannot think of one detail that was not handled quickly or left hanging for any reason. Knowing that this follow up policy on work performed is available without hassle is another major difference between your company and other remodeling firms.

Finally, our only regret is that we did not see your company earlier for other work on our home. Should we add anything in the future we would not hesitate to call on you again.

Thank you for finding the best people for every phase of the work you do. It makes such a difference and we appreciated it more than you can imagine.

Sincerely,

Dick and Leslie Ridenour – San Diego (Hillcrest), CA
